International markets are the winners…

By Jody Fewster
  • The S&P/ASX 200 ended the year up only 3.2%, against 10% last year and 7% in 2024.
  • The S&P 500 (the biggest 500 companies in the US) is up 20% over the year and the NASDAQ is 24%, whilst London’s FTSE gained 19%.
  • Mining giants BHP and Rio both climbed a staggering 62%, helped by copper prices which have surged by a third. Other commodities haven’t fared as well, with Gold below $US4,000. Brent oil is down at $US72.92 a barrel and Iron Ore is up slightly at $ US98.95 a tonne. Bitcoin is below $US60,000 off from last year’s peak of $US126,000.
  • After hitting a 4-month high of US 72.6c last month, the Aussie dollar is back just under US 70c.
  • On the property front, similar to HSBC’s forecast, Morgan Stanley estimates house prices could fall by as much as 10%, the largest correction in 40 years. REIWA reports that 1 in 3 WA homes is now selling below its listing price. Perth’s growth rate slowed to 0.7% in June.
  • Perth’s western suburbs are moderating, but the lack of supply and continued population growth are underpinning values.
  • Anti Money Laundering (AML) laws apply from today for all real estate agents so expect a little more paperwork when selling and buying in the future. Our team is well-versed in the requirements and has the technological support to make the process easy and stress-free.
  • A big thank you to my personal sales team who have helped 106 families move, transacting nearly $216 million worth of property with an average sale price of $4.1 million (selling properties from $760K to prices exceeding $17 million.
  • I wish everyone the very best for the 2026-2027 financial year. Please reach out if I can assist you. We can start with a conversation about your goals and move on to a completely comprehensive plan to see them achieved.
